Marie Wingate Lindsey, 61, of Houston, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Pine Forest Nursing Home in Beaumont, after a long and valiant battle against kidney cancer. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 2:00, at Claybar Chapel in Orange, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 12:30.
She was born and grew up in Orange, and graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in 1964 and from Chenier Business College in 1966. She moved to Houston in 1969, where she worked for 36 years as a medical transcriptionist, retiring in 2006 from Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.
Mrs. Lindsey loved her job and her coworkers; her family; and her three dogs, and she read thousands of books over her lifetime. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas West Lindsey, Jr. in 1993, and her father, Lance Wingate in 1998.
She is survived by her mother, Florence Brandt Wingate, of Beaumont; her sisters Patricia Wingate of Beaumont and Nancy Wingate and her husband Cruce Stark of Wilmington, DE; brother-in-law John Doucet of Groves; sister-in-law Georgetta Boehler of Houston; her uncles; aunts; nieces, nephews and cousins, and her very valued close friends.
Mrs. Lindsey's paternal grandparents were Claud and Lumea Bonin Wingate of Orange, and her maternal grandparents were Ottomar and Annie Marie Solleder Brandt of Beaumont.
Honorary pallbearers are Gary Bacom, Carl Brandt, John Doucet, Bobby Huard, John Quigley, Cruce Stark, and Al Wingate.
Services are under the direction of Claybar-Kelly-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont.
