Marjorie Combest Tilley, 93, of College Station, formerly of Beaumont, went to be with Jesus on December 6, 2014. She was born in Beaumont, TX, on July 3, 1921 to Ross and Magdalena Duperier Combest. Marjorie graduated from Beaumont High School in 1938. She graduated from Lamar Junior College in 1940. During World War II, she worked in the Beaumont Ship yards as a secretary. She married Joe Allye Tilley on March 6, 1946.
She was passionate about her family and helping others which stemmed from her strong faith in God. She was active in Junior League, Suicide Rescue, and Teaching Sunday School. She worked as the secretary for Tyrrell Combest Realty Co. Marjorie lived in Beaumont for 84 years.
She is survived by three daughters: Janis Tilley Warny (George) of Lake Jackson, Terry Tilley Quick (Michael) of College Station, and Sharon Vanover Woods (John) of League City. Grandchildren: Tiffany Quick Barry (Art) and David Quick of College Station, Brittany Warny Smith (Jeff) of Houston, Shannon Warny Whitley (Taylor) of Lake Jackson, Jeff Vanover (Lisa) of Houston and Lindsay Vanover Savoie (Corie) of Pelham, AL. She had six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations made to Hospice Brazos Valley.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, December 9, at Claybar-Kelley-Watkins in Beaumont. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 10 in the Chapel with burial at Magnolia Cemetery.
Pall bearers are Art Barry, David Quick, Jeff Smith, Taylor Whitley, Jeffrey Vanover and Corie Savoie. Honorary pall bearers are Gordon Rountree Jr., Willis Wood Thames Jr., Brand Combest, Finis Vanover, Jerry Clark, John Hawa, John May, John Scott, Stan Sansom and Homer Yarbro.
