Marlene Huckaby 

Marlene Huckaby, 92, of Orange, Texas, passed away on September 24, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 30, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Mauriceville. Officiating will be Reverend Kevin Brown. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Beaumont, Texas, on December 7, 1931, she was the daughter of George Ben Shirley and Lena Turner Smith Shirley. For many years, Marlene worked as a Clerk at the Orange Public Library. Marlene spent her life immersed in her faith, deeply loving the Lord. She cherished the opportunity to teach Sunday school for an impressive 68 years and was an ardent supporter of Vacation Bible School, volunteering tirelessly until she could no longer do so. Marlene also held a special place in her heart for Shangri La, having been one of the first volunteers when it opened, where she served as a garden guide. Marlene enjoyed traveling with her husband, with whom she shared countless adventures. Above all, she adored her family, finding joy in gatherings and making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marlene Huckaby's legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Huckaby, Sr.; her parents, George and Lena Shirley; her brothers, George M. Shirley, A.C. Shirley, Norman C. Shirley, and Gus H. Shirley; and her sister, Yvonne Adams.

She is survived by children, Claude W. "Skipper" Huckaby and wife Felicia, Brenda G. Lee and husband Larry, and Becky L. Brown and husband Ken. Her grandchildren, Aaron J. Huckaby and wife Lisa, Matthew R. Huckaby and wife Kim, Adam J. Huckaby and wife Sarah, Laurie D. Burke and husband Jon, Thomas B. Lee and wife Marcie, Amy L. Yost and husband Justin, and Justin K. Brown and wife Kaegan, and Kent Brown; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Lee Pool, numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of loving family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Huckaby, Matthew Huckaby, Adam Huckaby, Thomas Lee, and Justin Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be The Joy Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Mauriceville.

A special thank you to Heart-to-Heart Hospice and Lucas Court Staff for the wonderful care you took of Marlene over the years.
