Martha Stell Foster, 91, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away on November 26, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Martha Foster was born in Munger, Texas, on January 14, 1926. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Forrest “Jim Foster; brother, JC Scarborough; sisters, Minnie Lee Reeves and Rena Mae Bairrington; and her son, Jackie Wayne Byrd.
Martha and Jim lived in Alaska while Jim worked on the Alaskan pipeline. They enjoyed many years in the beautiful state of Alaska where their favorite activity was camping. Martha continued her love of tennis while living in Alaska. After returning to Texas in 1994 she continued to play tennis until she was 80 years old. She not only enjoyed the friends that she made while playing tennis, she enjoyed competing with them in local tennis tournaments.
Martha is survived by her daughter Brenda Landrum and husband Ronny; son, Gregory Byrd and wife Mary; daughter in law, Judy Byrd; grandchildren, Ryan Landrum, Kasey Sanders, Linzy Ritchie, Jennifer Dalby, Julie Wylie, Jordan Byrd, Mandy Do, and Meagan Stanley; and her great-grandchildren, McKenna, Bailey, and Cooper Sanders, Kate and Brady Landrum, Jonas, Eleanor, and Finley Ritchie, Madison, Sarah, Hannah, and Major Dalby, Brylea, Boss, Champ, and Legend Byrd, and Mason Stanley.
Martha moved to Pelican Bay in February of 2017. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Pelican Bay for making her feel so welcomed. She enjoyed the many activities offered, especially the bingo. She always let her family know when she won.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2017, at Claybar-Kelley Watkins in Beaumont, Texas. Officiating will Reverend Robert Besser, of Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
