Martin F. Orta Jr.

It is with deep sadness that the family of Martin F. Orta Jr. announces his death on January 26, 2011, while resting peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Public visitation with rosary will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Claybar Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday January 31, 2011 at Claybar Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will occur immediately following graveside services at the home of Martin and Nancy Orta.

Martin was born July 17, 1936, in Orange, Texas.

Martin lived and worked in Orange Texas and attended St Mary's High School in Orange. He joined the U.S. Army after high school in 1954 where he served as an Infantryman, Tank Commander, and Tactical Weapons Specialist. Martin traveled throughout the US and Europe departing the military in 1964, to begin a new life in Anchorage, Alaska. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1979 where he spent 25 years and was proceeded in death by his beloved Sheila. He returned to Orange in 2007 to reunite with his family and enjoy his retirement.

Woodworking, yard work, travel and dancing are some of the things Martin enjoyed, but most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

Martin is survived by his wife, Nancy Orta; sons, Michael, Steven and Sean Orta; brothers, Felix, Raul, Alejandro, and Bobby Orta; sisters, Rosita Reid, Alicia Blanchard, Mary Grimes, and Beatrice Chesson, along with 7 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Maldonado Orta; mother, Carmen Fernandez Orta; brother, Peter Fernandez Orta and sister, Carmen Fernandez Huckabay.

Martin will be remembered most for the immaculate care he gave to everything in life. His family added that he will truly be missed.
