Mary Audish

May 25, 1913 — September 8, 2012

Mary Audish died peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 8, 2012. She was born May 25, 1913 to Mike and Bettie Audish in Brenham, TX.

Shortly after attending schools, she moved to Beaumont where she resided until her death. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and nine siblings.

During World War II, when young men were called to serve in the military for our country, Mary, like so many women, answered the need to fill the positions left vacant by these service men. She began working at Beaumont City Lines as a city bus driver. She continued in this role for over 10 years. During her tenure, she was cited many times both public and in print by her passengers for her friendly, courteous and kind service. Many long and cherished friendships developed through the years from these acquaintances.

After the war, she worked as a clerk at Joe Thrash Pharmacy until her retirement.

Family was everything to Mary. Having no children of her own, she dedicated her life to care for her great niece, Jo Ann Harvill and great nephew, Michael Thrash. She was a loving and devoted aunt, unselfish and generous, always putting the needs of others first.

Mary was very proud of her Lebanese heritage and enjoyed cooking and sharing her good food and recipes. Her pecan pralines and plum jelly were special treats.

She was a deeply religious person, always faithful to her Christian upbringing. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of St. Michaels Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, Beaumont, TX. She had a very special devotion to the Archangel Michael her entire life.

She is survived by her niece, Dorothy Yentzen; great nieces, Jo Ann Harvill and Tara Ann Yentzen; great nephews, Michael C. Thrash, Don Ross Yentzen, Jr. and wife Vanassa and Don Ross Yentzen III.

Visitation will be held at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home Monday, September 10 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM with a Trisagion service immediately following, officiated by the Very Reverend Michael Pavez. A private family burial will take place on Tuesday.

Her family gives thanks to God for her life and many blessings. They will mourn her, miss her and pray for her always. Rest in peace, Aunt Mary and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
