Mary Sue Davis, 88, of Ruston, Louisiana, passed away on October 1, 2024, at Oakwood Manor in Vidor.
There will be a graveside service to honor Mary at Alabama Presbyterian Church in Sibley, Louisiana on November 9, 2024 at 11:00a.m.
Born in Choudrant, Louisiana, on February 16, 1936, she was the daughter of Almer Davis and Ruby (Holstead) Davis. Mary loved spending her time outdoors, always working in her yard or tending to her garden. Her passion for gardening brought her joy and was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. In addition to her love for nature, she had a talent for sewing. Mary was especially proud to be known as “Sue Sue” to her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She held a special place in her heart for her family and cherished the time spent with them, creating many wonderful memories together. As a dedicated member of the Alabama Presbyterian Church in Sibley, Louisiana, Mary was active in her community. Mary was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and worked as a social worker at Ruston State School for many years. She also volunteered as a voting poll worker. Mary will be remembered fondly for her warm heart and the love she poured into her family and community.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Almer and Ruby Davis; daughter, Melody Stewart; and siblings, Paul Davis, Melba Krauskup, Marjorie Blake, Martha Gaston, and Billy Davis.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelia Gatlin and husband Robert; grandchildren, Ross White and wife Alyssa, Ryan Gatlin, Reese Gatlin, Jesse Stewart, Chloe Stewart, and Parker Stewart; great grandchild, Emma Stewart; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
