Mary Follmer, resident of Kingwood, died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Kingwood Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins, Beaumont.
Born in 1946 in Texas City TX, she grew up Orange and was a longtime resident of Lumberton.
After staying at home to raise her family, she worked at Forest Lawn Funeral Home of Beaumont, and retired from Baptist Beaumont Hospital in 2011 and moved to Kingwood, Texas to be closer to family.
She loved birding, bicycling, hiking, and travelling, and especially looked forward to combining these whenever possible. At home, she enjoyed gardening, reading mystery novels, and going to the movies. A longtime fan of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt and of the Houston Texans since they were established in 2002, she later became a fan of the Houston Rockets as well.
She attended Grace Church of Lumberton, Texas, where she was baptized, and later attended Friendship United Methodist Church of Porter, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Laura Faye Graham, and beloved husband of 39 years, Ellis Follmer.
She is survived by her son, Charles Follmer of Houston, Texas; numerous friends and extended family; and her cats, Hurley and Snickers.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Houston SPCA and The Salvation Army of Houston.
