Mary Lou Slocum

July 27, 1920 — September 25, 2008

Mary Lou "Gertie" Slocum, 88, died September 25th, 2008, in Bryan, Texas, after evacuating for the hurricanes. She was a resident at the Meadows Nursing Home in Orange.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at the First United Pentecostal Church in Orange with Brother Gary Wheeler officiating.
Visitation will be at the Church on Monday, September 29th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Autumn Oaks Cemetery in the McLewis Community.
Mrs. Slocum was born on July 27, 1920 in Pitkin, LA. to William and Julia Martin Smith. A long time resident of Orange and a life long Christian, she was an active member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Orange. She worked at Camp Claiborne Army Base in Alexandria, LA. before and during World War II and also worked as Title Clerk and secretary with her late husband, Morris Slocum, for Slocum's Auto Sales in Orange. Since that time she was a homemaker and will be missed by her sons and their families, her Church family, neighbors, all her relatives and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Slocum was preceded in death by her spouse, Morris B. Slocum, four brothers, three sisters and her parents. She is survived by three sons, R.C. Slocum and Nel of College Station, Texas, M.B. Slocum of Lake Charles, LA., and Daniel Slocum and Debbie of Mauriceville, TX. She had five grandchildren, Shawn, John, Shannon, Cameron, and Mary Katherine Slocum and nine great-grandchildren.
