A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Jon Brinley.
Born in Orange, Texas, on July 2, 1927, she was the daughter of Robert Rumsey and Linnie (Manning) Rumsey. Mary was a woman of faith and a member of Winfree Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed attending what she affectionately called the “old ladies” Sunday School at the church. It was there that Mary formed some of her strongest friendships. She also found joy in painting, as well as cooking and baking for her family and friends. Those that knew Mary loved her famous yeast rolls called “Manna from Nana”. She always looked back fondly on her time that she spent living in France for nine months earlier in life, and her loved ones enjoyed hearing about the memories she made while there. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and she will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Soloman Swift; her son, Charles Eric Swift; and her siblings, Calvin Rumsey, Arnold Rumsey, Barbara Motte, Betty Montgomery, Howard Rumsey, and Kenneth Rumsey.
Mary is survived by her children, Kim Geller and husband George of Coldspring, Kevin Swift of Orange, and Toni Abshire and husband Roger of Huntsville; her sister, Vernadine Montgomery; as well as her seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous other loving family members and friends.
