Mary Alice Dickens Ellis

Mary Alice Dickens Ellis, 83, a former resident of Bridge City, Texas went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at her home in Buna.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2010, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Robert "Huck" Carter of Genesis Baptist Church of Buna. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Midway Cemetery between Woodville and Livingston.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Born in Kiam Midway, Texas on December 15, 1926, Mary Alice was the daughter of James Edward Dickens and Dedie Young Dickens. She was a retired elementary teacher from Hatton Elementary in Bridge City Independent School District and a member of Genesis Baptist Church of Buna, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dedie Dickens; husband, Tolbert Lee Ellis; and brother, Charles Edward Dickens.

Mary Alice is survived by her daughter, Peggy Ellis Sykes of Buna; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Cheryl Ellis of Bridge City; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Victor Nugent of Buna; granddaughter, Deborah Scianna and her husband Kenneth of Houston; grandsons, Jeremy Sykes, James and John Ellis, both of Bridge City; and nephew, Kent Dickens of Midway.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Jeremy Sykes, James Ellis, John Ellis, Kenneth Scianna, Kent Dickens, and Jimmy Ellis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arnold Vickers, Neal Dickens, Charles Dorgan, George Ellis, and Gary Vincent.
