Maude Edith Gatlin Tibbits
Our beloved Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2009. Born in Hankamer, Texas on December 14, 1914 to Johnnie and Myra Gatlin, she had three brothers and two sisters. In her early age the family moved to Sour Lake, TX where she graduated from high school and then took a beauty course.
Maude was a long time member of the First Baptist Church. Sour Lake, TX. She was president of her Sunday school class, the Bykotas; and also helped at Caring Christian Sharing.
Maude was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Tibbits, her parents, brothers Herbert, Joe and Vernon Gatlin; sisters, Ethel Pate, Bertie Tate, and a grandson James E. Schwalenberg.
Maude married James A. Tibbits on January 14, 1935. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her children, flowerbeds, fishing, playing dominoes and cards.
She is survived by her son John Archie Tibbits, and wife Frances of Vidor, TX. Daughters Ann King and husband Milton King of San Antonio, TX , Pat Schwalenberg and husband Gary of Sour Lake TX; her grandchildren, Douglas Tibbits and wife Susan, Paula Moore and husband Harold, Steve King and wife Dana, Greg King and wife Kathryn, ten great-grandchildren, one niece, and five nephews.
The family extends a Very Special Thank you to Diane Anderson, and the Professional Health Care Hospice.
Funeral service will be Monday October 26 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Sour Lake, with burial following in Rosedale Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will be Sunday October 25 from 5-8:00 pm at Claybar Kelly-Watkins Funeral Home, 1155 N. 11th St. Beaumont TX.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Sour Lake, or Sour Lake Volunteer Fire Department ambulance service.
