Maudie “Arlean” Hawkes, Born February 15, 1929, to Willis Shelby Sanders and Carrie Eddie (Moore) Sanders in Otto, Texas. She married Charles William Hawkes on November 26, 1946, in Travis, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband and her sons Gary (Marcia), Marshall (Barbara) and her daughter-in-law, Sandra. Her survivors include C. Keith Hawkes (Sandra) and Donna Hawkes. She was blessed with six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her greatest past-times were baseball (give her a bat and she could tell you where she was going to hit it) and her church, from counting the offering, working in the nursery, and teaching classes either on Sunday morning or through the WMU. Her greatest love was her family and when all of her family coming home for the holidays and the teasing would begin – she would just sit back and laugh. If you never had a chance to meet this beautiful lady – then you missed out on a blessing. She did not care who you were or where you came from – if you needed a hug or just someone to talk to – she was ready. Mom passed away on December 13, 2024, in Beaumont Texas while a resident at Calder Woods and she will be missed by her beautiful smile and her ability to pray for anyone and everyone she met.
