Melba Ruth Scarlett, 93, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 23, 2020, in Jasper, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020, at First Baptist Church-Mauriceville. Officiating the service will be Reverend Kevin Brown.
Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church-Mauriceville.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2020, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden, Louisiana.
Born in Minden, Louisiana, on December 24, 1926, she was the daughter of William Earl Scarlett and Essie Mae (Maddry) Scarlett. Melba worked as a secretary for DuPont Sabine River Works for 34 years before retiring. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church-Mauriceville. She enjoyed giving back to her community and volunteered for several charitable organizations. Melba was an avid horsewoman who enjoyed showing horses, as well as dogs. She enjoyed spending time outside gardening in the sunshine, was a very talented artist, and played several instruments as music was such an important part of her life. Melba was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Essie Scarlett; her infant son; and her brother, Robert Earl Scarlett.
Melba is survived by her nephews, Jeffrey Glen Scarlett and Allen Scarlett; along with numerous loving friends she considered family.
Honorary pallbearers are Butch Arabie, Jeff Collier, George Shannon, Joe Shannon, Jr., Joe Shannon, III, and Tim Shannon.
