Melville George Hyatt
Melville George Hyatt, 98, of Orange, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Pinehurst Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church in Orange, beginning at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Mike Umbenhaur. Cremation will follow under the direction of Claybar Haven of Rest Crematory in Orange.

Born in Buffalo, New York on June 7, 1915, Mr. Hyatt was the son of Gilbert and Lydia (Koch) Hyatt. He was a graduate of University of Michigan. During WWII, he helped manufacture “heavy water” for the U.S. Government in Terre Haute, Indiana, after which he transferred to Orange with the DuPont Company. He was in supervision with DuPont Sabine River Works and stayed with the company until his retirement.

Mr. Hyatt enjoyed golf and played numerous courses in the United States and Europe. He enjoyed Square Dancing and calling the dances.

He and his first wife of 53 years, Nancy Hall Hyatt, traveled extensively and particularly enjoyed cruises. After Nancy’s death, he married Elizabeth Lundquist, and they continued traveling and meeting close friends at Sunset Grove Country Club on Friday evenings.

Mr. Hyatt was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Orange and served in many different capacities. In particular, he supported the use and maintenance of the church’s magnificent organ.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lundquist Hyatt of Orange; daughter and son-in-law, Randi and Richard Audelo of Keller; daughter, Susan Day of Garland; grandchildren, Mark Hanson and his wife, Amphai of Saipan, Wendy Kennedy and her husband, Vance of Peoria, Arizona, Jennifer Day of Wylie, Jeffrey Day of Boulder, Colorado and great grandchildren, Dylan and Chloe Kennedy of Peoria, Arizona.

Mr. Hyatt is also survived by his step daughters, Ruth Brunson of Hobbs, New Mexico and Dru Anne Lundquist of Clear Lake.

My Grandddaddy has always been an inspiration of strength, wisdom, kindness, and generosity. I am so thrilled that my children got to hear stories from their great grandfather last summer. It's a memory we will all cherish. He will be greatly missed.
