Melvin Luther "Luke" Neel, 86, passed away Saturday, September, 26, 2009.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Sour Lake. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 to 9 on Tuesday at Claybar Kelley-Watkins funeral home.
"Luke" was born November 17, 1922 in Sour Lake to Melvin Luther Neel, Sr. and Marinda Warren Neel. He served in the Army during World War II and was later a pipefitter for the Pipefitters Local Union 195. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Sour Lake Lodge 1002, a member of the Scottish Rite and the First Baptist Church of Sour Lake. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Mr. Neel is preceded in death by his parents and wife Opal "Scooter" Simmons Neel and is survived by sons, Patrick Neel and wife, Kyle Leann, John W. Henry Jr. and wife, Darlene and Frank T. Henry; daughters, Susan Neel Hall, Gay Beth Henry Martel and husband, Larry and Renee Henry Rutherford and husband, Robert. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his brother-in-law, Buddy Simmons and wife, Linda; sister-in-law, Emma Lee Simmons and many loving family and friends.
