Meritta Dawn Taylor Norwood, 44, of Orange, Texas, passed away on December 23, 2024, at St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Randy Redkey. Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery in West Orange.
Visitation will begin prior to the service at 2:00 p.m., December 29, 2024, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Orange, Texas, on March 5, 1980, she was the daughter of David Taylor and Meritta Kennedy (Worthen). Meritta was a remarkable woman who played an invaluable role in her family. Often referred to as the "glue" of the family, she brought everyone together with her warmth and love. She proudly served in the United States Army, a testament to her dedication and strong spirit. Meritta had a deep passion for creativity; she expressed herself through arts and crafts, which she cherished. Her green thumb allowed her to cultivate beautiful plants, reflecting her nurturing nature. Meritta also adored her pets and could often be found on the go, listening to AIR1 Christian station. One of her simple pleasures was visiting Dollar General. Beyond her personal pursuits, Meritta was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in West Orange, where she found community and fellowship. She could make anyone smile and was always there to bring everyone together. Her vibrant personality and her ability to make others feel loved and included will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father, David Taylor; stepmother, Mary Taylor; grands, Johnny and Donna Worthen; and father-in-law, Ronald Norwood.
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Norwood; mother, Meritta Kennedy and husband Danny; mother-in-law, Telisa Norwood; son, Davian Lynn Cormier (Jaelyn Dorman); stepson, Aaron Thomas Norwood; siblings, Tasha Baumgartner (Tony), and Shannel Taylor (Jason Dyson); nieces, Madison Dyson and Ashtyn Jenkins; nephew, Matthew Broussard; great-niece; and numerous other loving family and friends.
