Michael “Roy” Follmer was born on April 1, 1938 and passed away on August 12, 2022.
Roy married the love of his life, Lynda Wainwright Follmer, on July 4, 1963, in Beaumont, Texas. They were married for 58 years.
In his early years, he graduated from French High School in 1956 and then proceeded to join the United States Marine Corps in 1957 until 1960. He served as a Corporal Expert Rifleman. After serving in the Marines he attended Lamar University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1963. He also played college basketball at Lamar and was knicknamed “Squirrel” because he ran so fast up and down the court.
He then worked for the Texas Highway Department as Chief Accounting Director of Administration for 34 years; 1963 to 1997 when he retired.
Roy was a devoted Christian and long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church, formerly North End United Methodist Church, for over 60 years where he served the church in various capacities. His years at the church included becoming one of the founders of both the Society of St. Stephen’s and the annual church garage sale. Roy helped originate Some Other Place and served on many committees of the church through the years. He was a lay leader to the Texas Annual Conference for over 20 years.
Roy is preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Wainwright Follmer; daughter, Samantha Lynn Follmer; brothers, Ellis, Dick, and Jack Follmer; sister, Ruth Follmer; and parents, Francis and Henry Follmer.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Stacy Ribbik and son-in-law, Spencer Ribbik; grandsons, Drake and Deklin Ribbik of Frisco, Texas; sister Mary Follmer of Webb City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont.
Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 18, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Beaumont. Officiating will be Reverend Rick Ivey.
Serving as pallbearers will be Armon Husband, Tommy Butler, Clyde Richmond, Don Sample, Don Wilson, Bubba Harvey, Frank Richardson IV, Art Belle-Isle, Dick Marsh and John Robinson.
