Mildred L. Norsworthy

Mildred L. Norsworthy, 92, of Orange, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Orange.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Dr. Andy Pate, pastor of First Christian Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City. Serving as Pallbearers will be Jack Burney, Don Covington, Jack Moore, Pleas Evans, Brian Norsworthy and John Coody.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Born in Groveton, Texas on March 17, 1921, Mildred was the daughter of Hiram Norsworthy, Sr. and Pearl (Hager) Norsworthy. She graduated from Groveton High School in 1938, and moved to Orange in 1951. Mildred retired after working in accounts payable for Levingston Ship Building until the yard closed in 1983. Afterwards, she helped set up Gulfport Shipbuilding in Port Arthur. She was an avid bowler, a member of the PBA and a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hiram Norsworthy, Jr., Hyman Norsworthy and wife, Evelyn; and sister, Helen Haunschild and husband Otho.

Mildred is survived by her nieces and nephews, Harold and Ginnie Haunschild of Ft. Worth, Brian and Joyce Ann Norsworthy of Beaumont, Ann and John Bookout, III of Houston; numerous great nieces and nephews; and longtime business partner, caregiver and close friend, Norma “Susie” Sorrels.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church, 611 9th Street, Orange, Texas 77630.

My name is Francisca Schmidt and I'm a porter at Lauberge Miss Mildred was my best friend I would always remind her to take her medicine and we became the bestof friends.I was on my way to the funeral on yesterday but the van I was in broke down I know she's in a better place and watching over me..To her family I say be strong and stay encourage we will meet again some day..I love her and I will miss her dearly.Will miss seeing her at Lauberge

Susie, Michelle and I were at the casino last evening and were approached by Mildred's friend that she visits in the lady's room. She came, hugged us and cried as we did to hear of Mildred's death. We will miss seeing her so much. We truly cared for her and you as well. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you throughout this ordeal you face. God Bless, Marie Scimemi, and Michelle Piatt. Hope to see you Susie, look for us even tho we only go as a rule, one time a week.
