Milla Mae Matthews, 90, longtime resident of Beaumont passed away Friday July 3, 2009 in Austin.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel. Interment will follow at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Geneva.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Matthews retired from United Way at Beaumont in 1986 after 24 years and was a 52 year member at North End Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin C. and Melvia Dixon Gill; husband, D.S. Matthews; sisters, Lois Lassiter, Ora Thomason and Kate Gunter and brothers, Harry Gill and Ervie Gill.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, R. Douglas Matthews and life mate, Jacque Mae Schafer of Austin and Jon Matthews and wife Carolyn of Rosenburg; grandsons, Douglas K. Matthews and wife Monica of North Carolina, Brandon Matthews of Rosenburg and Dr. Cameron Matthews and wife Rosie of North Carolina; and two great grandsons, Benjamin and Nathaniel Matthews. She is also survived by her sister, Essie Fanette of Huntsville, AL; cousins, Paula Beauchamp, Mary Lou Low both of Houston, Gilbert I. "Buddy" Low of Beaumont and Sue Lindsey of Lumberton; nieces, Janice Serface of Waco, Lois Rhodes of Huntsville, AL, and Geraldine Ballew of Waco; many loving family and friends who will miss her dearly and especially her dear friend and neighbor, Mr. William Head of Austin.
