Myrtle Locke Lee (nee Baize), 98, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She lived a long, full life defined by her independence, adventurous spirit, and boundless kindness.
Born on April 23, 1926, in Daisetta, Liberty County, Myrtle grew up with a love for creativity and a curiosity about the world. An extraordinary seamstress, she had a gift for transforming fabric into beautiful, cherished pieces. Whether sewing dresses and costumes for loved ones, era clothing for her volunteer work, Christmas stockings for her family, or painting beautiful designs on clothing and accessories that warmed generations, her craftsmanship was a reflection of the care she poured into everything she did.
Her adventurous heart led her to travel far and wide, never passing up an opportunity to explore new places or serve on mission trips. Even in her later years, she remained eager to pack a bag and set off on her next journey, usually with the Sterling Silver Singers choir group she loved so much, proving that a love for adventure has no age limit.
Above all, Myrtle was devoted, and her warmth and kindness made everyone feel special. She had a way of making even the simplest moments meaningful, whether through a heartfelt conversation, a lovingly made meal, or a handmade gift. Her loyalty and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Gregory (Donna, whom she cherished as a daughter): grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike), Alicia (Jason), and Lauren; and her 5 great grandchildren, Malin, Shane, Clara, Cullen, and Ian; and numerous nieces and nephews in the Beaumont and Rockport areas who will forever carry her love and lessons in their hearts.
She is now reunited with those who passed before her, including her loving husbands Ken Locke and Norman Lee, her children Cyndy Roper (George) and Kyle Gregory, and her grandson, Ryan Gregory.
A celebration of Myrtle’s life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin prior to the service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Spindletop Museum in Beaumont and the Fulton House Mansion in Rockport, both museums where she found great joy in volunteering.
Her journey here may have ended, but her love, wisdom, and adventurous spirit will live on in the stories we share and the memories we hold dear.
