Myrtle "Sam" Matthies, 93, of Vidor, Texas went to be with her heavenly Father peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Vidor Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Opp, Alabama and lived many years in Port Arthur, Texas where she was in the grocery and real estate business. She had real estate and property management offices in Austin and Houston until she retired to North Carolina.
Visitation will be held at Maplecrest Baptist Church, Vidor, Texas, on April 16th from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Her funeral service will be held at Maplecrest Baptist Church on April 17th at 3:00 p.m.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Lennie C. Williams and Oliver E. Matthies.
She is survived by sons, Robert C. Williams Cheryl, of Nederland, Don R. Williams Barbara, of Vidor, daughter, Kathryn Ethridge, of Sikeston, MO., step-sons Bill Matthies, Mary, of New Jersey, Bruce Matthies Lisa of Mentor, Ohio and special niece, Wice Henderson of Lakeway, TX. She is also survived by her brother, Bo Henderson, of St. Simons Island, GA. Myrtle had 13 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren and they would light up her face anytime she got a chance to see any of them. She loved her family, her church family, and her Beaumont Yacht Club family.
The family would like to thank some special people that took care of her over the past years, Dr. Nathan Marchand, Dr. Steven Soudi, Dr. Henry Williams, the staff at Vidor Nursing and Rehab, the staff from Harbor Hospice and Pastor David Valleau. You all helped make this journey easier and have touched our lives forever. A special thanks to her special friend in the Lord, Rev. Sonny Jewell, of Buna.
