Olita Marie Menard Bertrand, 88, of Beaumont, TX passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at home with her family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 11, 2010 at Our Lady of Sorrows in China, TX. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be SGT Kevin Bertrand, Matthew Walters, John O. Walters, Jacob Baxter, Chad Havard and Brian Macias.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Olita was born August 11, 1922 in Kaplan, LA to Arte' and Olite Menard. She attended school at Broussard's in Cow Island, LA.
She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in China, TX. On July 6, 1944 she married Joseph "Papa Joe" Bertrand.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janet Dietz and husband, Jerry of Beaumont; sons, Gerald "Buddy" and wife, Barbara of Port Acres, Gary and wife, Helen of Beaumont and Robert "Bobby" of Beaumont; sisters, Lillian and Marie Faul both of Beaumont and Barbara Lopez and husband, John of Florida. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Joseph "Papa Joe" Bertrand; her parents; two brothers, Eli and Raymond Menard; sister, Audrey Duhon and daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean Bertrand.
