Olyean Belle Cariker Smith, 96, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 3, 2008. Olyean was born on June 23, 1912. She was preceded in death by her parents Marion Francis Cariker and Willie Seamen Rush Cariker, her husband Harvey Cole Smith, daughter Barbara Francis Haston, sisters Bessie Walters and Valda Stripling, and Brother Marion Cariker. She is survived by her daughter Joan Salisbury, sons Marion "Bud" Smith and Gary Smith, grandchildren, Dan Haston, Karen Neild, Cheryl Dennis, Beci Amy, Jill Cormier, David Smith, Rebecca Betz, Danni Smith, and, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Married to Harvey Cole Smith for over fifty years provided her with a life of adventure. A pastor and educator's wife, strong in her faith and very involved with members and giving service at First Baptist Church. As an avid reader and entrepreneur, Olyean owned and operated her own book store in the 1940's. She was an extremely talented cook and loved to entertain. She will be remembered for many things but her sense of style was her trademark.
A celebration of Olyean's life will be held Friday December 5 at 3pm at Claybar Funeral Home with internment at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Beaumont.
The family will receive friends from 2pm-3pm at Claybar Funeral home.
