Opal Dee Comeau, 94, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008, at the home of her son in Northglenn, Colorado. She was born in Houston, Texas on November 22, 1913, the youngest of five children of Thomas and Bashie Cissell.
Opal grew up in the Heights area of Houston, Texas and graduated from John F. Reagan High School there in 1931. She also graduated from Massey Business College in 1933.
Opal met Rolland Brooks Comeau of Austin, Minnesota in 1935 while both were employed by George A. Hormel And Company in Houston. They were married in 1938 and moved to Beaumont, Texas.
During World War II, Opal worked various jobs while her husband was in the Air Force. After the war she raised her family and later on she went to work for the Beaumont School District where she worked for 29 years, retiring in 1983.
In retirement, she volunteered at the Beaumont Art Museum for 4 years and baby set for over 15 years. She was a founding member of Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Beaumont. Opal moved to Colorado in 1998 to be closer to her two sons and their families.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Rolland B. Comeau, her parents, three sisters and a brother. She is survived by her two sons Dr. Curtis J. Comeau, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and his wife Karin, and Rolland D. Comeau, of Northglenn, Colorado and his wife Philancy. Also three grandchildren, Sharon Aragon of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Cameron Comeau and Kelsey Comeau of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and two great-grandchildren, Kendall Aragon and Drake Aragon of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 27th. at 2:00 PM at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church, followed by burial in Forrest Lawn memorial park under the direction of Claybar Kelley-Watson Funeral Home. Richard Wooten, Nathaniel Wooten, Brent Messina, Greg Messina, Mark Messina, and Pat McGown will be serving as pallbearers. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 PM TO 7:00 PM on Monday, May 26th. at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church.
