Paul Cormier, 90, of Orangefield, Texas, passed away at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont on Friday, October 30, 2009, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Orangefield. Officiating will be Reverend Forrest Wood pastor of First Baptist Church Orangefield and Reverend Jimmy Brossette, former pastor of First Baptist Church Orangefield.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009, at First Baptist Church Orangefield.
Paul was born on July 3, 1919, in Ged, Louisiana. He was the son of James Jack Cormier and Florence Patin Cormier. Paul had been a lifelong resident of Orangefield since 1921, when his family moved there at the beginning of the Oil Boom. He attended Orangefield schools and founded Cormier Well Service in 1947. He spent his entire life working the oil fields throughout Texas and Louisiana as a Well Service Contractor and a Drilling Contractor, in which his rigs continue to work today.
Paul was a member of First Baptist Church Orangefield, and throughout his life he and his beloved wife Jewel had been active in the community. He has served as past school board member of Orangefield ISD. He was a life board member of the Orange Memorial Hospital Corporation. He served as a board director of County National Bank. Paul was honored to be named as a past "Citizen of the Year" for the Orange Chambers of Commerce. He also was named a Rotary "Paul Harris Fellow".
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Jewel Fusilier Cormier in 1993; and his sister, Dena Mae Cormier Kirby.
Paul is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Devra Cormier; daughters, Carlene Cormier Swenson and Darlene LaFleur; seven grandchildren, Janet Montagne and her husband Johnny, Karen Chavis and her husband Martin, Ken Swenson and his wife Cheryl, Tessa Groom and her husband Ray, Paula LaFleur, Buffy Burleigh and her husband Scott and Michael LaFleur and wife Melanie; seventeen great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and his brother, Jack Junior Cormier all of Orangefield.
Serving as Pallbearer will be Jackie Cormier, Michael LaFleur, Ken Swenson, Lynwood Sanders, David Fusilier, Lester Winfree, Tim Edger, Gary Vincent and Dr. David Olson. Honorary Pallbearers will be former and current employees of Cormier Well Service, Pine Knot Bradley, J.B. Allen, Levan Myers and Clevan Myers.
Those wishing to make memorial donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Building Fund or the Texas Children's Hospital.
