Paul A. Smith, 83, of Orange, Texas, passed away on March 8, 2017, in Vidor, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Orangefield. Cremation is under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home.

Born in Elton, Louisiana, on November 13, 1933, Paul was the son of Paul and Mary Smith. He worked as a carpenter and served his country in the United States Army. He loved fishing, coaching sports, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his children, Melanee Scales and husband Mark, of Orangefield, Melissa Guidry and husband Glenn, of Orange, and Paula Gist and husband Steve, of Katy; grandchildren, Jared Alleman, Erik Smith, Lindsay Elmore, Adam Scales, Aimee Scales, and Chad Scales; great-grandchildren, Eli Ford Alleman, Rylee Scales, Cayden Elmore, and Hadley Elmore; siblings, Mary Jane Forestier, of Lake Charles, Betty Flowers, of Port Neches, and Jerry Smith, of Katy; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
