Pete Zerko, Jr.

Pete Zerko, Jr., 80, of Orange, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral services will be 10:00 Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange with the Reverend T.J. Bordelon, pastor of Cove Baptist Church, officiating. The eulogy will be given by Mr. Zerko's brother, John "J.D." Zerko.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born in Midland County on June 12, 1929, Pete was the son of Peter Paul and Dovie Elizabeth Prince Zerko.

He was a WWII U.S. Army Air Corp veteran and a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal. Pete was a member of VFW Post 2775 and retired from Pipefitter's Local 195.

Pete loved gardening, fishing, reading and sports.

Preceded in death by his parents, Dovie and Peter Zerko and brother, James H. "Zeke" Zerko, Pete is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ira and Mary Ann Zerko, John "J.D." and Beverley Zerko, Frank and Nancy Zerko and Eugene and Linda Zerko, all of Orange.

Also surviving are his nieces and nephews, Sharon Zerko, Wendy Goynes, Cindy Zerko, Del Zerko, Mark Zerko, Tara Torres, Kippi Guidry, Mandi Kay Zerko, Leigh Anne Zerko, James Shafer, Margaret George, Walter Shafer, Gene Shafer and Sarah McClendon.

Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Futch, Jerry Isbell, Kermit Richard, Mark Zerko, Del Zerko, Adam Zerko, Nathaniel Zerko and Chris George.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Russell, Raymond Zalewski, Charles R. Wilcox, Willy Harrison, Mickey McNamara and Charlie Mason.
