Raquel Elaine Gilbert, 90, of Kingwood, Texas, passed away on October 19, 2024, at Golden Years Nursing Home in Orange.
Born in Buffalo, New York, on July 31, 1934, she was the daughter of Walter Trimble and Elmira Schall Trimble. Raquel left behind a legacy marked by strength, independence, and unwavering compassion. She was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many throughout her journey. Raquel was dedicated to her community and found joy in giving back. She lovingly crocheted baby hats for newborns at local hospitals, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her contributions to the community extended beyond crafting; she was a proud member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and an esteemed member of the Eastern Star, reflecting her deep-rooted values and commitment to service. For over 25 years, Raquel was a devoted member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Porter, Texas, where she formed lasting friendships and inspired others with her kindness and positive energy. Her faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her in her interactions and endeavors. An adventurous soul at heart, Raquel was also an avid cruiser who explored many corners of the globe. Her passion for travel allowed her to embrace diverse cultures, connect with new people, and create cherished memories that she shared with loved ones. Raquel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; longtime companion, Glen Thomas; Walter and Elmira Trimble; her brothers, Dave and Sonny; and her sisters, Larue and Bonnie.
She is survived by her children, Edd and Lisa Gilbert, and Neville and Charla Thomas; her grandchildren, Matthew Gilbert, Paige Gilbert, Jeff and Tiffany Thomas, and Chad and Kelsey Harrison; her numerous great-grandchildren including Vance, Kylie, London, and Lincoln; and many other loving family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her neighbor and treasured friend, Christine Womack, from Kingwood, Texas as well as Chris Jones and the staff of Gentiva Hospice, and the staff at Golden Years Nursing Home for the exceptional care they gave to Raquel.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
