Raymond Alonzo Knight

December 23, 1926 — August 29, 2012

Raymond Alonzo Knight, Sr., went to be with his Lord on August 29, 2012. Raymond was a graduate of Beaumont High School and a World War II and Korean Conflict Navy Veteran. He worked at Mobil Oil for 38 years and retired as a Senior Planner.
He loved to garden, but the greatest love of his life was Beverly Johnson Knight. They were married for 57 years when she moved to her eternal home. He also loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He lost his only son, Raymond Knight, Jr., in 1986.
Mr. Knight was a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Board Member or Children's Worker most of his adult life. Above all, he studied the Word of God diligently and prayed faithfully. His last few years were a struggle but when asked to pray, he sounded like he was thirty or forty years younger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Ra3 and Arthur Alonzo Knight, his brother Arthur Knight, and his sister Genevieve Ault Fenner. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Ron McCartney and Annette and Mike Purington, all of Beaumont, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren and extended family, Mary Elizabeth Purington, Rachel McRight, Philip McCartney, Beverly McCartney, and Jonathan McCartney; Charlotte, Don and Jeremy Richardson and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 31, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service will be September 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. , both at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank their church family, Christian Fellowship Worship Center, for the love they have expressed through their prayers, cards and visits. Also, thank you to all of the workers at College Street Health Care Center. And to Carmen and Judy with Odyssey Hospice, there are no words to express what you mean to our family.
