Born in Henderson, Texas on August 12, 1943, Rebecca was the daughter of George Truett Mason and Bessie Lou Mason (Price). She loved Orange, Texas, and was a cherished member of the community. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and remembering everyone she met. Rebecca moved to Orange in 1964 where she began her career as a distinguished news reporter for the Orange Leader. After 20 years, she retired from the newspaper to start Flickinger Insurance Agency with her husband, Bert. Rebecca worked in insurance for the next 30 years, earning her insurance license after Bert’s death. Rebecca graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. But most knew Rebecca for her Texas A&M football passion, as her son attended school there. Throughout life, she was actively involved in her church and community. She played the piano at First Christian Church, sang in the choir, and served on the church board. She was also active with the Lutcher Theater Guild plus held leadership roles as President of the Jones Elementary PTA and President of the WOS Band Boosters alongside her husband. She was a respected member and supporter of the Orange Rotary Club, the United Way, PEO, Friends of the Orange Depot, and the Orange Community Players. On Friday nights, Rebecca could be found cheering from row 6 of the 48-yard line at Mustang Stadium. She held the same West Orange-Stark football tickets since 1977. Rebecca was also well known for baking delicious chocolate treats for her friends and local groups. Rebecca leaves behind her love of Orange, Texas, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Bert Flickinger; and parents, George Truett and Bessie Lou Mason.

She is survived by her son, George Flickinger and wife Elizabeth of Lynchburg, Virginia; grandchildren, Morgan and Kennon Cook; sisters, Margaret Stewart and Marcia Miles and their families of Tyler, Texas.
