Reverend John Robert Sims

Reverend John Robert Sims, 78, of Orange, Texas, passed away on December 30, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Missionary Johnny Woodard. Burial will follow at Weeks Chapel Cemetery in Newton County.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Jasper, Texas, on May 20, 1947, he was the son of Robert and Kathie Sims. John was known for his dedication and contributions as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, which he achieved after earning his BS in Industrial Engineering from Lamar University. He worked at Akrotex in Orange until his retirement. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. John married Dianne Sims on June 13, 1969, and together they created a vibrant life filled with music and shared faith. They were known as talented musicians, creating beautiful memories for themselves and those around them. John's love for music was evident in his passion for writing Christian music, and he was actively involved in church activities, where he touched the lives of many through his ministry. He was an ordained minister and served as the Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church in West Orange. His musical talents flourished as he played the guitar with local groups and churches, sharing his love for Christian, country, and gospel music with others. John will be remembered for his kindness, musical gifts, and commitment to his faith and community. He leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Brad David Sims and Robert “Bob” Sims; and parents, Robert and Kathie Sims.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Dianne Sims; sister, Elizabeth “Beth” Black and husband Curtis; and other loving family and friends.

I cleaned John & Diane's house for a few years. I loved both of them very much and John will be missed by me terribly!!! I send out prayers to Diane, Beth and all of his beloved friends. John was such a good man; loving and giving. He is with the lord now & not in anymore pain. That makes me happy!

I hate to hear that Uncle John has passed. I remember the jam sessions that him, Aunt Di, Robert and Brad used to have in that house. He will be missed terribly.
