Reverend Pilar Almazan, Sr., 80, of Orange died Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Orange.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2008, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Reverend Michael Granger of Cornerstone Church in Mauriceville will officiate. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Pilar was born June 1, 1928, in Brownsville, to Guadalupe and Evangelina Vasquez Almazan.
Pilar served in the U.S. Air Force where he received the American Theater Ribbon and Victory WWII Medal.
He helped establish Mision Bautista in Mauriceville and First Baptist Hardin, and served as pastor to both.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Almazan and sister, Catherine Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Herminia Lopez Almazan; son Pilar Almazan, Jr. and wife Shirley of Victoria, daughter,
Sabrinna Cooper and husband Bob of Deer Park; grandchildren, Joseph Daniel Cooper, Amanda DeAnn Almazan, Wade Elton Almazan and Elizabeth Ashley Rader; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Nicolais, KateLynn, AshLynn, Mark and Ally; sisters and brother, Guadalupe Valdez, Juanita Barrera, Helen Gracia, Saul Almazan, Evangelina Flores, Francis Mora and Ruth Espinosa.
Serving as pallbearers will be Pilar Almazan, Jr., Wade Almazan, Robert Cooper, Joseph Cooper, Anastacio Robles and Robert Ramirez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Saul Almazan and Justo Lopez.
