Richard A. Simmons, 77, of Orange, Texas, passed away on December 6, 2018, at his home.

Born in Orange, Texas, on October 4, 1941, he was the son of Hoyt Arnold Simmons and Mary Jane Smith Simmons. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp and retired from Entergy as an Instrumentation Technician. He enjoyed spending time volunteering at the Thrift and Gift in Orange, joking around, and never met a stranger. Richard loved to read and shop. He was a hardworking, loving father and husband and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Mary Jane Simmons; step-father, J.O. McCune; sister, Jerrie Sue Culver; and brother-in-law, Louis Culver.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Janice M. Simmons; children, Scott “Opie” Simmons and wife Nichole, of Orange, Michele DeLaney and husband Shane, of Orange, and Richard A. Simmons, of Virginia Beach, WV; grandchildren, Zack Thibodeaux and Jaycie Wilson; brother, Hoyt A. Simmons and wife Joan, of Bevil Oaks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation is under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
