Robert Baca, 84, of Orange, passed away on June 24, 2020, at his home.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 6:00 p.m., Monday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Deacon Melvin Payne.
Born in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico, on December 20, 1935, he was the son of Pedro Baca and Carmen (Vizcaino) Baca. Robert was the face of achieving the American dream. He was born in Mexico and started the first 20 years of his life there, migrating to Galveston as a young man, and eventually relocating to Orange. He first worked at H&H Body Shop, later opening Robert’s Body Shop in 1966. Robert was an honest and hard worker, making sure at every moment his family was provided for. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge Madison #126. He loved scuba diving with family and friends, especially in Cozumel and Honduras. Robert enjoyed Elk hunting in Colorado, traveling to all 7 continents, and capturing photography in his spare time. Above all else, the love and pride of his life was his family, holding them near and dear to his heart. He will be dearly missed by all those who came to know and love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Carmen Baca; and sister, Margarita Perez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marcelina Baca; children, Carmen Duhon and husband Darrel of Orange, Virginia Johnson and husband Jim Whittington of Orange, and Robert Baca, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Orangefield; grandchildren, Justin Duhon and wife Michelle, Ashley Tarver and husband Cody, Shea Johnson and wife Emily, Diego Baca, and Santiago Baca; great-grandchildren, Trace Johnson, Colton Tarver, and Lilly Tarver; and siblings, Luzlena (Nena) Cavazos, Abel Baca and wife Blanca, and Anthony Baca and wife Doris, all of California; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

We are very sad to hear of our Uncle Roberts passing. Our father always spoke highly of him and his incredible work ethic and kindness to all. We are so glad to have spent time with Robert when he visited CA in January.
Aaron recalls fond memories of camping and scuba diving in Mexico with Uncle Robert. These memories will always bring a smile.
He will be missed,

I am going to miss my friend Tito . Almost since I met him back in the 60s he was the most gentle man I had ever met or probably ever meet again. He and Marcie opened their house to this teenager like I belonged there . On Friday nights when the Mustangs played at home ,I always had a place to park at Titos. I didn't have to knock just holler and go on in. You will be missed my friend ,until we meet again. Go Rest High On the Mountain.

When I was 14, Tito took Tony & I to Mexico to visit their family, my first time out of the country. They decreed that if I wanted something to eat, I had to ask for it in Spanish Thank you Tito, for jump starting my fluency in that language. A life well led my friend.

It is a great loss that my uncle has left us.
But after some thought, a sense of peace fills my heart. My thoughts are filled with memories, so many memories of him, our families.
And those memories fill my heart with feelings.
Feelings of warmth, and love, laughter and kindness.
He was my uncle, but moreso, he was my friend.
I know, in my heart, that my uncle is with me, and that he is with each and every one of those that knew him. I also know, in my heart, that .... he is happy, having crossed to the other side of the river.
In me are the feelings he cultivated, to grow strong and share with others. His laughter, his grunts, his kindness and his patience; all are components of love.
“I will always love you very much, and I will think of you often because you are always in my heart”.
your nephew, Abel Jr.

I remember as a young girl going to the Baca's home to spend the night with Virginia and they were always the most cordial and sweet people that you could ask for. I always felt like I was welcome. Mr. Baca was a very sweet and gentle man always smiling every time I saw him. I haven't seen him in years but I hated to hear of the loss. The family is in my thoughts and prayers. May God be with you all during your time of need.

I recall the time Uncle Robert stopped by our house in Austin, TX. We were so excited to see him and catch up on how everyone was doing. As he was leaving he noticed something wrong with our Chevy Suburban drivers door. I opened the door for him and he said in his slow drawl, “do you have a 2x4 about 6’ long?”. In a few minutes he aligned the door perfectly using just that 2x4 and a few scraps of wood. “There you go” he said softly and left to continue on his hunting trip.
Words cannot express how much we will miss Uncle Robert. He was truly one of a kind.

Tito is my uncle (my mother’s, Margarita, brother) my fondest memory of him is when I was younger and he would always tell me to “be sweet Becky”. He was gentle, kind and funny. We can take comfort in knowing he is again reunited with his parents and my mother.

Most of my childhood memories involve Tito. Our families did most everything together. I remember he used to take out his tooth and give me his crazy smile! As an adult with my own kids and in another state he would always welcome me to come visit. Those were some nice times just driving around with him or having toast and honey for breakfast (he had boat load of honey!) He was very special to me! I know this isn’t the end because I have God’s promise of eternity with Tito one day. :hearts::hearts::hearts:

Little did we know that on Wednesday morning God was going to call my brother Robert’s name. In life we loved him dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose him, but he did not go alone. For part of us went with him the day God called him home. He left us precious memories and his love still remains our guide. Though we cannot see him now, I know he will always be by our side. Our family chain seems broken and nothing appears the same, but as God calls us one - by - one, the chain will link again. I have so many memories of my Uncle Tito.... He was always funny- I remember when I would ask him where my mom was or my cousin Virginia was....he would always say well let me check my pocket..... but what I cherish most was his kindness and patience when I was little. I attached a photo I have of me, my mother and my Uncle Tito, my mother's little brother.
I will miss my Uncle Tito. But I do find comfort that my mother has her little brother along with my grandparents.
Love you so much
Maggie
