Kent Dickerson was born on June 9, 1950, in Jasper, Texas, the son of Cecil and Ruth Marshall Dickerson. He was raised in Burkeville, Texas, where he graduated as a proud Bearkat from Burkeville High School in 1968 as a member of a close-knit class of 22 students.

Following his graduation, Kent was employed by Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative, where he worked as a lineman for three years. In 1971, he relocated to Huntsville, Texas, to begin his career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. While serving with TDCJ, he furthered his education at Sam Houston State University, earning bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Business Administration.

Kent loved his work and devoted his professional life to medical service. He retired as a Senior Practice Manager after 50 years of dedicated service with the University of Texas Medical Branch and the State of Texas. He will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of working alongside him and benefiting from his leadership, integrity, and steady presence.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Ruth Marshall Dickerson; his former wife of 26 years, Carol Dickerson; and his wife of 21 years, Rebecca “Becky” Dickerson.

He is survived by his brother, David Dickerson and wife Paula; his son, Jason Dickerson and wife Lora Lee; his stepson, Carl “CC” Certa; stepson Trae Lawler and stepdaughter Leeanne Lawler; and his beloved grandchildren, Sam and Grady Dickerson and Sean and Braylee Certa along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life, Kent was guided by a steadfast faith in God, which shaped his character, strengthened his work ethic, and inspired a life of service to others. His legacy of faith, dedication, and quiet strength will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.

He was easy to work with and had a good sense of humor, which you need to work in a prison. A good man. God bless his family and friends.

Ken was a gentleman and a leader throughout the time that I had the pleasure of working with him. He always showed others a means to be better. For those of us that chose to work within Correctional Managed Care, we did so out of compassion and kindness. Ken always paved the way in those virtues.
