George Rodney Hoots, 80, of Nederland, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2019 at Silsbee Oaks Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont, Texas, on 11th Street. Officiating will be Pastor Kicker McWilliams of 7th Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont.
Born in Santa Anna, Texas, on January 27, 1939, he was the son of George Wesley Hoots and Hazel Warren Hoots. Rodney, as he liked to be called, was a retired truck driver. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Rodney was a simple man and enjoyed spending time with his family, and he took great care of his wife, Rose. He was very dedicated to taking care of his grandchildren, and held them close to his heart. Rodney was a member of 7th Street Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by all those who came to know and love him.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Rose Downs Trahan Olona Hoots of Nederland; daughter, Kelly Rhea Hoots of Nederland; step-children, Margaret Olona Koncaba and husband Cliff of Nederland, Betty Keffer and husband Mark of Nederland, Delia Hancock of Nederland, Sheila Walker and husband Lowell of Nederland, Darlene Porter and husband Jim of Tennessee, Dale Trahan and wife Nelda of Port Neches, and Stan Trahan and wife Tammy of Lake Charles; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and siblings, Page Hoots and wife Brenda of Shreveport, and Christy Hoots Harper of Baton Rouge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hazel Hoots; sons, Jeff Hoots, Kendal Hoots, Harry Trahan, and Mark Trahan; sister, Midgie Jean Hoots; and brother, Noble Hoots.
