Roger Gardner Futch, 90, of Orange, passed away on July 28, 2020. He lived a long, happy life full of family and friends.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by services at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Randy Branch of Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
He was born June 22, 1930 to Donald Eugene Futch, Sr. and Willie Kate (Gardner) Futch. Roger graduated from Lutcher Stark high school in 1947 and went on to work at DuPont Sabine River Works for 37 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. Roger was a man of many facets, working as a fishing guide on Toledo Bend Reservoir for many years, volunteered driving the “Leon Parish” boat for the nature classroom on Adams Bayou, and a member of the Orange Boat Club. Being an Eagle Scout taught him various Indian tricks that he would go on to use throughout his entire life, venturing into a few short-lived hobbies like scuba diving, golfing, and bowling. Roger often took his family camping for almost every vacation which created numerous wonderful memories of love and laughter. He was incredibly involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives and enjoyed attending any of their extracurricular activities that he could. He was a loving husband, father, and PawPaw. Roger will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of all those who loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Nell (Prince) Futch; children, Katie Futch Swope, Kim Futch Mitchell and husband Robert, and Karen Futch McClelland and husband Randall Mac; grandchildren, Brandy Swope, Connie Swope, Amber Sharp and husband Daniel, Erin Mitchell and fiancé Cody Robinson, Baylee McClelland, Dalton McClelland and wife Carey; great grandchildren, Leyton Sharp, Reagan Swope, Hattie Belle and Emmie Claire McClelland; brother, Don Futch Jr. and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; twin brother at birth; sister in law, Addie Prince Futch and Keith Parish.
Serving as pallbearers will be Will Parish, Raymond Parish, Joe Baker, Robert Mitchell, Randall Mac McClelland, Dalton McClelland, Cody Robinson, and Brian Parish.
Roger’s family requests that guests wear face masks.
