Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on February 12, 1949, he was the son of Clarence Ellert Thompson and LaVerne Marie McGeorge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Al Thompson; and his sister-in-law, Sherry Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Diann Thompson; his children, Gail Moody and husband, Greg of Lumberton, and Wayne Thompson and spouse Heather Willis of Needville; his grandchildren, Charlotte Harvey, Brandon Moody and wife Jessie, Kade Sayre, Chase Moody, Jordan Thompson, and Cole Thompson; his great-grandchild, Zander Liner; and his siblings, Patricia Thompson, Mary Wright, and Donald Thompson.
