November 9, 1923 — August 28, 2012

Rev. Rowat H. Smith, 88, of Lumberton, Texas, departed this life to rest in the arms of our Savior, August 27, 2012.
He was born November 9, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 2, he and his parents moved to Houston, Texas. It is there that he met his wife of 59 years, Alice M. Smith. Together they raised three sons, Scott, Kyle, and Paul.
Bro. Smith, as he was affectionately known, was preceded in death by his wife and eldest son, Scott Smith. He is survived by his son Kyle Smith and wife, Brenda and grandson Aaron Kyle Smith, and youngest son Paul Smith, all of San Antonio, Texas.
He was an ordained Southern Baptist Minister for over 45 years and pastored many churches throughout Southeast Texas. He was a veteran of World War II, having fought in the European and Pacific theaters. After returning from the war, his love of cars and motorcycles led him to open Imperial Paint and Body Shop in Houston, Texas. It was during this time he was called into the Ministry. His many hobbies included riding motorcycles and flying airplanes.
Special appreciation is given to his daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith, for her tireless dedication and devotion to his care for the past seven years that he was a resident of Stone Oak Health Care Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 7, 2012, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home, Beaumont, Texas. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:00PM in the chapel.
