Ruby was born September 8, 1926 in Daisette, Texas to Jesse Lee Turner Sr. and Octavia (Chessher) Turner and went to be with her Lord December 20, 2016 at 10:05am due to complications from a fall.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Octavia Turner; her husband, John C. Ott of 45 years; her brothers, J.C. Turner and Jess Turner Jr. and a step-son, John C. Ott, Jr. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ron Reed and Charlotte and Rick Hare; granddaughters and husbands, Rebecca and Devin Jones and Maranda and Justin Williams; great-grandchildren, Jadon Jones and Riley Jones; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Turner and Mary Ott; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruby graduated from Sour Lake High School in 1944. She graduated from Business School to pursue a job at Mobil Oil Company, formerly known as Magnolia Oil in 1950. She married the love of her life, John Charles Ott, January 24, 1954, after meeting on a blind date and marrying 6 months later. She continued working at Mobil until the birth of their first child, Linda. Ruby became a stay at home mom from then on. They had their next child, Charlotte, 9 years later.

When John retired, Ruby found a hobby, cake baking. This turned into a full time profession, she loved opening a door to friends she maintained for a lifetime. She is a charter member of the Houston Cake Club, a member of the Louisiana Cake Club, and a member of ICES (International Cake Exploration Society). She is also charter member 0002 of the Beaumont Yacht Club, formally known as Beaumont Boat Club. Ruby is a member of DRT (Daughters of the Republic of Texas) and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). Her love for travel was equal to her love for family. If someone said go, she was ready. Her motto was, "I can buy what I need on the way." She also had another passion, collecting Candlewick Crystal. She had been in every antique store and juke shop in Texas looking for her precious crystal. She has over 700 pieces. One of her favorite sayings was "I can't afford not to buy it."
