Ruth Dickey, 88, of Orange died, Sunday, February 24, 2008, at The Meadows in Orange.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Reverend Danny Gillam of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Autumn Oaks Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ruth was born September 2, 1919, in Hartburg, TX, to Dora Elizabeth Fleming Thomas and Asbury Thomas.
Ruth was an avid square dancer with Merry Mixers. She loved music and singing in the choir at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member and a part of the Ruth Sunday School Class with Pearl Stanfield as her teacher. She was also a member of Pal's Place at First United Methodist Church in Georgetown, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S. P. "Pete" Dickey, Sr. and friend Herbert Frames.
She is survived by son, Pete Dickey, Jr. and wife Nettie of Orange, daughters, Sylvia Dickey Smith and husband Bill of Georgetown and Glenda Dickey Merrell and husband Marlin of Bridge City; grandchildren, Randy LeBlanc, Karyn LeBlanc Trantham, Kathy LeBlanc Russell, Jim Hogg, Jon Mark Hogg, Russell Hogg, Anissa Hogg Russell, Matthew Dickey and wife Kara, Andrew Dickey and Daniel Dickey. Seventeen great grandchildren; and sister in law, Mary Elizabeth "Titter" Marziana.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Hogg, Jon Mark Hogg, Russell Hogg, Eric Trantham, Ken Russell, Andrew Dickey, Daniel Dickey and Matthew Dickey.
Ruth's family wishes to express a special note of gratitude to the residents and staff of The Meadows of Orange and Odyssey Hospice.
