R. W. "Bob" Callahan, 80, of Orange passed away Friday morning, September 19, 2008. Bob was born March 3, 1928 to Monie and Jeremiah Callahan. Jeremiah died when Bob was only 3 years old and Monie later married Joe Hudnall, who became a treasured father to Bob. He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Mary Alice Smith Callahan. He is survived by his daughter, Pat Harris of Orange, TX and his son, Bob Callahan, Jr. of Dallas, TX, his brother, Calvin Callahan of Orange and his sister, Layla Mae Wagoner of Lawrenceville, GA . He has three grandchildren, Chris Hoffmeyer of Orange, Kim Hoffmeyer of Beaumont and Lauren Callahan of Dallas. He had 2 great grandchildren, Mackenzie Hoffmeyer, Kamryn Hoffmeyer and numerous nephews and nieces whom he loved. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mizelle Glaze for her love and companionship in Bob's later years.
Bob was in the Navy from 1945 to 1947 and was a Plankowner on the ship: Witek . He then returned to Orange and found a home at Dupont where he retired as a Supervisor in 1986. He was a member of First Baptist Church of West Orange where he previously served on the Financial Committee and the Building and Grounds Committee.
Pallbearers are Wayne Hoffmeyer, Bruce Wagoner, Brett Wagoner, Philip Wagoner, Greg Thigpen and Al Perry. Honorary Pallbearers are Don Wagoner and Duane Callahan
Visitation will be Sunday night from 6 to 8:30p at Park United Methodist Church in Orange. Funeral services will be held there also at 3p Monday, September 22, 2008 with Reverend Herbert Thompson of First Baptist Church of West Orange.
