Samuel Lee Moody, PV2, 29, of Deweyville, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, in Fort Hood, Texas.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church in West Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Damon Bickham, pastor of First Baptist Church in Deweyville; Reverend Billy Hutson, Samuel's grandfather and former pastor of Calvary Baptist Church and Reverend David Millner, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.

Burial, with military honors, will follow at Deweyville Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Samuel was born in Beaumont on September 21, 1979, the son of Ronnie Lee and Sherry Lynn Brown Moody.

He was a graduate of Deweyville High School, a member of Boilermaker Local 587 and Calvary Baptist Church in West Orange. He loved landscaping and yard work, music and spending time with his friends.

Samuel joined the U.S. Army in October 2008, graduated February 19, 2009, from Fort Knox and was currently stationed at Fort Hood. He was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal.

Preceded in death by his mother, Sherry Lynn Moody and grandmother, Ruby Fae Brown, Samuel is survived by his father, Ronnie Moody of Deweyville; sister and brother-in-law, Ashley and John Lopez of Mauriceville; sister, Alyson Faye Moody of Beaumont; grandparents, Raymond Lee Brown, Sr. of Jasper, Billy and Ruby Hutson of Deweyville; and nephew, Bryson Lopez of Mauriceville.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Justin Long, Michael Langley, Dane South, Jeff Walker, Bryan Butler and Blayne Sharp.
