Sandy Parkhurst, 74, of Orange, died on January 13, 2009 at Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Orange. Reverend Randy Branch, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Disciple Mausoleum at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 15, 2009, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Mrs. Parkhurst was born on February 17, 1934, in Shelby County, TX to Charles "Charlie" and Kate Goodson Jackson. She worked as a legal secretary for many years with the Sexton Law Firm in Orange and retired as a court reporter from Jefferson County. She was a 1949 graduate of Stark High School and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Orange.
Sandy enjoyed playing bridge and being in the company of her friends. She most loved her time as "Granny" and being surrounded by her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Olan Jackson and Butch Jackson; her sisters, Ione Wood, Gay Nell Moore, and Barbara June McGill.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband, James Parkhurst of Orange; her children, James Parkhurst, Jr. and his wife Linda of North Carolina, John Robert Parkhurst of Beaumont, Toni Day and her husband Kenneth of Orange, Lisa Haynes and her husband David of Bridge City, Nancy Johnston and her husband Tony of Garland, and Blakely Parkhurst of Orange.
She also leaves four grandchildren; Faith Ricks and her husband Jerry of Bridge City, Kathryn LeBlanc of Bridge City, Daniel Smith of Garland , Taryn Nagel and her husband Chris of Mauriceville; four great –grandchildren, Griffin Ricks and Kason Ricks both of Bridge City , and Taylor Nagel and Jackson Nagel both of Mauriceville.
Mrs. Parkhurst also is survived by one sister, Billie "Sister" Grindol and her husband Bud of Lake Charles and two brothers, Alan "Nicky" Jackson and his wife Tammy of Orange and J.W.Jackson and his wife Jane of Beaumont.
