Sarah Evelyn Wrigge Pickren, 102, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Oakwood Manor Senior Home in Vidor Texas, where she had resided for six years. She was born on November 15, 1914 in Dallas, Texas to Will and Frances (McKinney) Wrigge.
Evelyn grew up in Greenville, Texas in and graduated from Greenville High School in 1932. She later graduated from Southern Methodist University where she received a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. After retiring as an elementary school teacher, she and her husband Joe, moved to Beaumont, Texas.
Evelyn love family gatherings above all else and retained her sense of humor and playfulness for all the days of her life. The “adopted grandchildren” of her caregiver were a particular source of joy.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Will and Frances Wrigge; her brothers Henry Glenn Wrigge, William Franklin Wrigge and Sidney James Wrigge; and her son, Thomas Randall Pickren.
Evelyn is survived by her grandson, John; her daughter-in-law, Linda, her 5 nieces and nephews; and her wonderful and devoted caregivers Carolyn and Willie Reed of Vidor, along with their many children and grandchildren, who knew how to keep her laughing.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017 in Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
