Selman Wier “Dub” Spell passed away in Beaumont on January 27, 2008, just after his 97th birthday. He was born on January 24, 1911 in Beaumont, where he attended South Park High School. “Dub” has always been known for his dedication and hard work. During World War II, he became a member of the Army Corps of Engineers. Later in life, he built many Best Western motels throughout Texas and Louisiana and remained on their Board of Governors for many years. He was a longtime member of Roberts Avenue Methodist Church. He was also a 32º Scottish Rite Mason, having been a member in good standing of the Valley of Houston, Orient of Texas for 51 years. He graciously supported the family, friends, and organizations that he cherished. He is survived by his niece Pat Garb, his nephew Joe Max Guillory, and his great-nephew Garrett Guillory. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
