Seth “Sonny” Shelton, 82, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away at his home on December 1, 2020.
A funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Community Church in Orange, Texas, under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Loyd Thurman of Community Church.
The family has requested that masks and social distancing be observed.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3:00 p.m. until time of service.
Sonny was born in Daisetta, Texas, on March 10, 1938 to Roy Shelton and Noma Woods Shelton.
Sonny served in the U.S. Army, honorably discharged in 1961. He was a retired construction manager for Burrow Global. He had 59 years of service in the construction industry, making some of the largest crane lifts in the Golden Triangle. He traveled to the United States and Puerto Rico serving as construction manager and consultant for various construction companies.
Formerly of Orange, Texas, he was an active member of Community Church for over 70 years. He served as Board member and trustee as well as being involved in other ministries. Sonny was an ordained minister, always ready to pray with and promote other ministers.
Sonny was a dedicated family man and enjoyed being “Poppy” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His great joy was having family over on holidays, enjoying meals together and the laughter of the little ones.
He never met a stranger and was ready to pray for anyone in need. Sonny will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Preceding Sonny in death are his parents, Roy and Noma Shelton; sister, Audrey Worsham; and great-granddaughter, Penelope Scott Landry.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret Shelton; daughters, Rhonda Godwin and husband Russ, Cindy Thomas and husband John, and Cheryl Ogea and husband Mark; grandchildren, Russell Godwin, John Jacob Thomas and wife Cristina, Corey Ogea, Carley Landry and husband Adam, Kaylynn Tkachev and husband Artur and Brennah Stevens and husband Evan; great-grandchildren, Karson and Mila Ogea, Ella and Maverick Thomas, & Falcon and Baker Reed Landry; brother, Doug Shelton and wife Olivia; sister, Dorothy Wertz; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog of 14 years, Sammy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Church of Orange Benevolence Fund.
