Sidney John “Sid” Caillavet, Jr.
Sidney John “Sid” Caillavet, Jr., 93, of Orange, Texas, passed away on March 6, 2023.

Born in Orange, Texas, on December 9, 1929, he was the son of Sidney John Caillavet, Sr. and Dennis Bland Caillavet. Sid was a faithful and devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange. Being the smart man that he was, it’s no surprise that Sid skipped two grades in elementary school. He graduated from Stark High School with the class of 1946 before going on to attend Lamar University and graduating from Stephen F. Austin University, where he married the love of his life, Peggy, his senior year. Sid was a lover of music and enjoyed playing the piano, playing the trumpet in high school, and even singing with the Cardinal Singers while attending Lamar. He spent many years with the Boy Scouts of America working his way up to the ranking of Eagle Scout as well as being a member of the Order of the Arrow. Sid loved spending time outdoors whether he was on the water boating and fishing, playing numerous rounds golf with his buddies at Sunset Country Club, or watching sports- especially baseball- having played men’s fast pitch softball himself in his twenties. He was a member of the Orange County Jaycees and attended many of the Orange County Rodeos over the years. Sid went on to work as a Haberdasher for over 40 years at Griffin’s Men’s Wear where he eventually took ownership of the business making lifelong friends with the customers he served. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, who adored his family. Sid will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life for 66 years, Peggy Louise Caillavet; parents, Sidney and Dennis Caillavet; and his sister, Martha Marie “Pruney” Caillavet.

They would also like to thank “Sid’s 19th Hole” buddies that always came to spend time with him and have a cold one on the patio.

Sid chose to donate his body to science, which is a valuable gift for training the doctors of the future.

Sid’s family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, especially Dr. Lavalais, Luis, and Lydia, for their compassion and care during his time with them.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.
