1948 ∼ 2020

Sidney James “Jimmy” Norwood, 71, of Merryville, Louisiana, passed away on July 18, 2020, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2020, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Mike Streams. Burial will follow at Mose Granger Cemetery in Orangefield.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Orange, Texas, on October 12, 1948, he was the son of Homer Norwood and Thelma (Willey) Norwood. Jimmy was a graduate of Bridge City High School. He was a simple man and a true cowboy at heart with a passion for raising and tending to his horses and cattle. Never listening to the restraints time tried to put on him, you could often find Jimmy still riding and roping every chance he could. He was hardheaded and little stubborn but would always go above and beyond for those he loved. His comfort zone was always outdoors, whether it be catching fish or breaking horses, he was always at his happiest when he was at the sale barn and he was always eager to get back to his stock. Jimmy will forever be remembered in the hearts of all those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Thelma Norwood; daughter, J Reneé Klein; and grandson, Fisher Hughes.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 30 years, Trina Norwood; children, Julie Norwood Walker and husband Bobby of Orangefield, and Chad Norwood and wife Sara of Merryville, Louisiana; grandchildren, Grant Klein, Colton Klein, Shiloh Walker, Jasey Walker, Danny Walker; and great-grandchildren, Blake Klein, Landon Klein, and Caleb Klein.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clint West, Bobby Stout, Steve Hughes, Shiloh Walker, Grant Klein, and Colton Klein. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Brunette, Bobby Walker, Wendell Tilley, Terrell Vance, Roger Odom, Randy Fuslier, and Mack Wilbern.

Jimmy was one of the sweetest classmates we had. He was a strong presence, yet always humble and polite and he certainly earned the respect of all who knew him. Praying for God’s peace to surround you.

Jimmy and I were friends and neighbors on Humble Road when we were teenagers. We made so many memories together. We dared each other a lot which at times was a dangerous event. One of those many dares was to jump off the Cow Bayou bridge so we both did and survived it. Jimmy was a tough guy. I never saw him afraid of anything or anybody. One of the things we enjoyed doing together was to swim in the rice canal by our houses with the snakes and alligators . We used the large pipelines that crossed the canal as diving platforms. I have so many memories with Jimmy, I could write a journal. I will miss you old buddy. I'll see you on those golden streets of Heaven.
